Why You DON’T Pay for the Cedar Key News Online

Editor

The beauty of the Internet is that it delivers news, views and announcements at the speed of light, and free of charge. That is why Cedar Key News was founded in 2002. The Internet has changed journalism as much as the invention of movable type did about 600 years ago.

Readers of Cedar Key News get online news and subsequent print editions without charge. Visitors and off-islanders get the local news as well. We can do this because many community members contribute news stories and join our nonprofit organization by paying a small membership fee. Also, we are supported by many local advertisers.

Our free print editions are read by visitors. They then follow Cedar Key News online when they get home

As it says at the top of page one, "News of the people, by the people, for the people." We will continue to be a locally owned independent newspaper as long as we have community members and advertisers giving their support. And readers will get the news online and in print, absolutely free.

Over the past nine years we have had more than sixty volunteer writers that have submitted news stories, photos, announcements and letters to the editor. Currently two local part time contractors do layout, design, billing and advertising sales. We post news online, early and often. And you get it all without paying even a dime.
