Join us in January at the Cedar Key Arts Center January Exhibit The Arts Center is honored to welcome Gene and Judy Rantz of Suwannee at the opening of their exhibit this Saturday evening, January 9, between 5 -7 pm, upstairs at the Cedar Key Arts Center , 457 2nd Street . The works of painter, Gene Rantz, will be displayed in the main gallery. Gene has a gallery in Northport Michigan during the summer but enjoys his home/studio in Suwannee Florida the rest of the year. He paints and fishes the wonderful creeks and hammocks at the mouth of the spectacular Suwannee River . When he first settled in this part of Florida , nearly 23 years ago, he painted the old fish houses of Cedar Key and Suwannee , with the realization that these treasures of human endeavors were very fragile and would eventually be lost forever. Thus, paintings like the Cedar Key Fish and Oyster Co, the Suwannee Fishhouse, and Goodson Island were created, and prints, made of these settings, have found their way to places all across America and beyond. His January show at the Cedar Key Arts Center , will include some of these early paintings as well as many new ones, all set along the coastal tidal flats in the Cedar Key area. The beautiful and unusual fabric art of Gene`s wife, Judy, will be featured in the member artist`s gallery. All are welcome to join us at the opening. Both exhibits will be open daily, 10 am - 5 pm throughout the month of January.
