Driving under the INFLUENCE of ALCOHOL continues to be a problem in the Cedar Key area, despite continuous warnings that your Police Department has a ZERO TOLERANCE for such violations. All of your Police Offers respectfully request that anyone over indulging in the consumption of alcoholic beverages call someone to drive them home. We ask this due to the endangerment of the driver, any passengers in the vehicle at that time, as well as any other vehicles, or pedestrians, that may be in the area when the intoxicated person is driving. He stopped the vehicle at the Number Four Bridge on SR24, advising the driver she was stopped due to her erratic driving. She stated she was swerving due to the vehicle in front of her, when, in fact, there was no vehicle in front of her. Sgt McMullen advised the driver that her vehicle was the only one that had passed by him in the past 20 to 30 minutes. She was asked if she would submit to a batter y of field of sobriety tests and she stated she would. Although the driver was advised several times how to perform the "walk and turn" exercise as well as the finger to nose exercise, she was unable to perform the properly. She did recite her ABC`s appropriately. She also failed the "one leg stand" exercise, as well. Sgt McMullen then arrested the individual, Jill W. Corporal Merritt requested the driver`s license and registration, advising him the reasons for stopping him. Corporal Merritt stated the driver`s eyes were glassy, and his speech was slightly slurred. The driver was written a citation for failure to stop at a posted stop sign, and Corporal Merritt asked him if he would submit to a sobriety test The driver replied he would. He was then asked if he had any impairment that might hinder him from any of the exercises. He replied he does; stating: Standing and walking in a straight line.
