NEW CKPOTTERY 2019
 Open Letter to Cedar Key
15 April 2020

Cedar Key Neighbors,
I want to express my sincere appreciation for our businesses on the island as well as their employees. They are sacrificing more than any of us, and their willingness to accept closure or limited operations during this time of COVID-19 is helping to keep the rest of us safe.

I also want to thank the residents in and around Cedar Key as well as the second-home owners and visitors who have stepped up and have followed the directives of the Governor, the County, and the City by limiting movements or canceling planned visits to Cedar Key. These measures seem to be working, but it is still up to each of us to do our part to keep ourselves and our neighbors healthy. This may include limiting day trips off-island for the time being, or helping to look after the house next door whose owners are not able to access it.
Presently, Cedar Key is the only municipality within Levy County without a confirmed case of COVID-19 and this, in part, is thanks to all of your individual efforts. This situation will not go on forever and I, and your other City Commissioners, are looking at signals that might begin the return to normalcy. We are also monitoring the status and capacity of healthcare providers nearby, and engaging with the experts who are sifting daily through all of the new information available.

In the meantime, it is becoming easier to get frustrated with masks, limiting movements, or wanting to access property on the island. Our police officers have been striving for consistency in providing access at the Number 4 Bridge and have been dutifully monitoring comings and goings through rain, bugs, and heat. Changing any of these restrictions too soon risks negating all of the sacrifices we have made so far. Thank you for your continued patience, for looking out for each other, and for remaining Cedar Key Strong.

Jim Wortham
