NEW CKPOTTERY 2019

CEDAR KEY SCHOOL
MANAGES SEVERAL COVID-19 CASES
November 1, 2020

For the first time since the school year commenced, three Cedar Key School students have tested positive for COVID19. One tested positive on Monday, October 26; two others tested positive on Friday, October 30.

THE PROCESS
The process in place requires the Florida, Levy, Department of Health officials and the Levy County Coordinator of Benefits and Risk Management to contact trace the students. They do so by visiting each classroom into which each student is scheduled. Following CDC guidelines, they measure distances and, with the aid of seating charts, develop list of those additional students who they notify to quarantine for fourteen days.

CONTACT TRACING RESULTS
Approximately twenty students were directed to self-quarantine at home on Monday and approximately another twelve on Friday.

A CLOSENESS EVENT, NOT ONLY A SCHOOL EVENT
It is important to note that these students are together in places other than the schoolhouse before and after school and on weekends. It is not simply the closeness of in person schooling.

LEARNING CONTINUES
So that students can continue their studies, Levy County Schools has provided each student with a Chrome computer. Further, the county is delivering a “personal hot spot” to each home of each student not in school. Cedar Key School teachers have been preparing lessons online and in person since the beginning of the year; students understand how to operate on both platforms.
