Interested in Butterflies? The Cedar Key Garden Club is offering two programs on butterflies. Both programs will be held in the Cedar Key Library upper level meeting room at 10:30 on Saturday mornings, January 30 and February 6. The public is welcome. There is no charge. Kathy Malone, North Central Florida Chapter President of the North American Butterfly Association, will present information on Butterfly watching and identification using photos and butterfly bingo. At the Saturday, January 30th session she will also present "Project Butterfly Wings." Zane Greathouse of Greathouse Butterfly Farms, Earlton, Florida will speak on Saturday, February 6. The topic is Caterpillar Friendly Gardening. Greathouse operates a working butterfly farm that specializes in raising butterflies native to Florida. His farm also offers educational programs and tours. You will learn how to create a garden that is sure to have butterflies. Nature enthusiasts, teachers, gardeners and students are encouraged to attend. Florida is home to a spectacular array of flowers and butterflies. There are some 2800 native plants and more than 180 species of butterflies for us to appreciate. |
