Lions Fund $10K in Local Eye Surgeries

Lions Fund $10K in Local Eye Surgeries

Cedar Key Lions Club

It`s been a busy summer for the Cedar Key Lions Club vision program. Lions eye surgery coordinator Jennie Pinto, in conjunction with the Florida Lions Foundation for the Blind, has helped organize and fund $10,000 worth of cataract surgeries for uninsured Cedar Key and Levy county residents over the summer months.

Cataracts are the number one cause of blindness in the United States.
Cedar Key residents are recipients of three of the vision-saving surgeries, while the fourth eye surgery procedure was for a Levy County resident.

In addition to the eye surgeries, Lions Vision Chairwoman Kathy Day reports the Lions Club arranged and paid for 11 eye exams and eyeglasses for locals in need of vision care over the summer months.

The Lions also collect used eyeglasses to recycle for use by people in need of eyeglasses in Third world countries. Please donate your used eyeglasses by depositing them in the Lions Eyeglass collection boxes at City Hall, The Drummond Bank on 2nd Street and the Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall.

In addition to vision services, Lions Club President commented that the club also funds hearing aids for those who need them but can`t afford them.

Lions vision care is granted on a needs basis. For further information about eye exams and eyeglasses, please contact Lion Kathy Day at 352 543-0869. For information on eye surgery, please contact Lion Jennie Pinto at 352 543-5757.
