Feigin Tosses Cap In Ring

Feigin Tosses Cap In Ring

Jim Hoy

Local businessman Dave Feigin enters political arena.

Dave Feigin , a Cedar Key business man, has begun to collect signatures to qualify him for election to The Florida House of Representatives. Having started May 31, as of June 5 he has collected 245 signatures of voters toward the 920 needed to qualify to be on the November ballot for the seat representing District 10. District 10 is a meandering rural district that includes Levy County and all or parts of nine other counties. Qualification must be completed by June 18.

Dave Feigin is 55 years old, a 22 year veteran of the U. S. Coast Guard and currently owner of Island Pizzeria along with his wife Cris. He has lived in Cedar Key for six years and is a registered Republican. While working on the Levy County Emergency Planning Group that is preparing for coastal oil pollution Feigin was inspired to run against the incumbent of District 10 in the upcoming election. Upon qualification for the ballot, Feigin says he will seek support of the Levy County Republican Committee.

Regarding issues that dominate the political scene, government spending is high on the list. Feigin puts education as the highest priority. He also advocates Florida Department of Environmental Protection participating to a high degree in fighting the BP oil spill. On other topics, he is in favor of term limits, as are most challengers for legislative seats. On the hottest button of all, abortion, Fiegin says he is totally against abortion. He recognizes the need for health care reform, but is not in favor of the current legislation. Immigration should require going through all the steps that have been required for two hundred years. And, on the local issue of nuclear power plant construction, Feigin favors building a new plant in Levy County, citing current safety requirements and the need for more jobs.
