Hands Across the Sand in Cedar Key

Hands Across the Sand in Cedar Key

Editor

A group of about 100 people, mostly from Gainesville and other areas in North Florida, gathered on the beach at Cedar Key City Park at noon Saturday to form a human chain in the Hands-Across-the-Sand event that was being repeated in hundreds of communities all along the Gulf Coast and elsewhere in the country.

The event, organized in more than 700 locations in 50 states, allowed participants to symbolically take a stand against drilling for oil in offshore waters and for developing sustainable clean energy.

A previous event in Cedar Key in February drew 12 participants, who braved a cold windy day to make their "line in the sand" on Sandspit Beach.

Festival Weekend open ALSO for Dinner 6 - 9 pm, amd Late Night 10 pm - 2 am
