Kindergarten Circus is Back!

By Josh Berger

The annual kindergarten circus was back at Cedar Key last Thursday, the twenty-first of
May. It was performed by none other than the Cedar Key kindergarten class. They had tight rope walkers, lions, and a strong man who could lift a bear. Faithful to the yearly tradition, the entire school came to the circus. The kindergarten class also sold lemonade and popcorn for a quarter each. Instead of the outdoor amphitheatre, the circus was held in the auditorium, where space was limited, but performance was not.

Writing for Pizza

By Sarah Martin

Cedar Key 10th graders made remarkable scores on the Florida Writes FCAT. Each student scored a 3.5 or higher, on a scale of 1 to 6. The students` average score was 4.9. Other school`s averages were around 2. "It was fairly easy and I was well prepared for it," says Matt Tysinger.

Mrs. Ice had previously told the students that if they all passed they would receive a pizza party. She held up her end of the bargain. Some students said "the party was incentive to do well on the essay." Throughout the year, Mrs. April, the high school English teacher, has been providing the students with writing tips and difficult prompts. They also studied how the test would be graded and practiced pre-writing. Next year tenth graders are reaching for another 100% of the class, passing with a 3.5 or higher.

Field Day

By Caely Hibbits and Alicia Lambert

Every year, Cedar Key School has an annual field day, and Pre-K through fifth grade all participate in fun-filled activities outside. There were seven stations: 1.Long Jump, 2.Clam Bag Race, 3.Softball Throw, 4.Frisbee Throw, 5.Water Balloon Toss, 6.Obstacle Course, and 7.Break. T-Shirts were provided for the students and teachers. Different grades received different colors. All of the teacher`s shirts matched their students. Coach Jackson`s high school classes helped run the events; they wore black field day shirts.

The third grade class rated their top three stations, they were: tug of war, water balloon toss, and the obstacle course. Filed Day would not have been possible with out the sponsorship from Drummond Bank, Déjà Vu, Capital City Bank, Island Pizzeria, CK Pizza, CK Booster, and Cedar Key Canvas.
