Valedictorian Hunter Lawrance Cannon, son of Angie Beckham and Melton Cannon, shines in the spotlight as valedictorian for the graduating class of 2010. In his years at Cedar Key High School, Hunter has participated in the varsity sports of basketball, cross country, and track and field. He has been active in many clubs during his four years including Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), where he serves as president, the scholastic club Senior Beta, where he hold the office of vice president. He also was a member of Student Government (SGA), and the Student Advisory Council (SAC). He achieved the national recognition when he was accepted in the National Society of High School Scholars in 2009. The one word Hunter uses to describe his high school career is "stressful." Even with his schoolwork, college classes, and regular work, Hunter still found time to give back to the Cedar Key. During his high school career, Hunter contributed 124 hours of community service to the city and school, most of which was spent cleaning or volunteering at festivals. "I`m most obsessive-compulsive about clutter. That`s why I don`t mind cleaning." In his spare time Hunter likes to play basketball and read. What Hunter Likes about Cedar Key is that "everybody knows everybody," though he does want to travel and see the pyramids in Egypt. In ten years Hunter sees himself out of college and married. During school Hunter`s favorite teacher was Mr. Brad Penney, who taught Hunter`s favorite class at CKS, World History. His favorite coach was his junior varsity basketball coach, Coach Biz Paeth. He doesn`t have a class that he wished he could take that CKS didn`t offer, but he does wish that he could take Team Sports again. Beginning in his sophomore year, Hunter dual enrolled with Central Florida Community College and Santa Fe Community College. His words of wisdom stem directly from that experience. He advises younger students that "If you dual enroll, don`t fail your college classes." His most memorable high school moment was the FBLA "fun trip" to Universal`s Islands of Adventure this year. "That was so much fun, even though it rained on us all day. It is the perfect memory to leave school with." Hunter is attending Santa Fe Community College in the fall of 2010 and plans to transfer to the University of Florida after his earns his Associate of Arts degree. He is pursuing a degree and career in accounting. Nina Bell
