 Quentin Peyregne

By Jessi Robinson When Quentin Zane Peyregne was asked to sum up his senior year in one word, he chose "satisfying." Quentin and Cedar Key`s other 13 graduates started out the year with new teachers and old friends. At the beginning of the year, Quentin was in favor of joining Coach Brad Penney`s cross country team, but eventually opted out to spend time with his two best friends, 2009 CKS graduates James Mason Long and Josh Loyd who is now a member of the US Navy. Quentin, laughing to himself, said that the three of them broke curfew a couple times, but never really got in trouble because "it was only by five or ten minutes." Quentin is known by his high school classmates as a "serial sleeper." Word around campus is that Quentin uses most of his class time as nap time. But the teachers don`t ever seem to mind, seeing as how his work almost always gets turned in, and with most of it correct! Chances are, Quentin still is tired from the recent stone crab season. On the weekends he said he worked "like crazy" cleaning traps and such with his Uncle Bud. He was happy that he got to spend time with his Uncle and he enjoyed going out on the boat,"but it was hot and tiring work." Quentin also spent time during high school as the first certified student volunteer for the Levy County Public Library System, racking up 212.75 hours of volunteer time. Although he wasn`t a participant in cross country, he still chose to participate in this year`s baseball season due to the fact that baseball is, and has always been his favorite sport. The thought of this being his last season was definitely a hard thing for him to swallow, but this nineteen year old has many things to look forward to in his near future. Soon after graduation, he`ll be leaving the island and heading off to serve Uncle Sam. With only a few days left of his senior year, Quentin wants to leave the school behind with this thought, "My year was satisfying, but I will miss all the fun times I had with my classmates and teachers. I can`t wait `till I graduate and go off into the Navy. I had fun in Cedar Key School, and I will definitely miss it." Aubrey Pope

By Claire Brown Aubrey Jordan Pope is the daughter of Todd and Star Pope. She is the middle child with two older siblings, Ryan and Rachel, and two younger siblings, Austin and Mikayla. Aubrey`s best friend is fellow senior Lacy Coulter. Aubrey`s favorite class is English; therefore, it`s no surprise that her favorite teacher is Mrs. April Fleetwood. After graduation next month, Aubrey intends to attend college while living and working in Gainesville. In her free time Aubrey enjoys hanging out with her friends at the beach, going to the tanning bed, or working. Her favorite song is Soco Amaretto Lime by the band, Brand New and her favorite movie is Fight Club. Throughout her high school career Aubrey has participated in gymnastics and cheerleading. In fact, at Cedar Key School`s recent Sports Banquet she received MVP for the 2009-10 cheerleading season. In her lifetime Aubrey hopes to be able to visit Australia, Europe, and The Bahamas. Aubrey says she is most obsessive compulsive about her appearance. Aubrey likes living in Cedar Key because it`s a "beautiful island." However, she also states that in small towns "people act like they know everything." When asked what impact she wanted to leave at CKHS Aubrey replied, "being different is the beauty in us all, you don`t have to follow what everyone else is doing." Her words of wisdom to her fellow classmates and friends in Cedar Key are simply this, "you don`t have to be so serious all the time." Taylor Rains

Taylor Rains still remembers the first day he arrived at Cedar Key School three years ago. He says the people were "so nice, it was unusual to feel so welcomed." Now, years later, he is graduating with the class of 2010. Taylor is the son of Jerry and Ayleen Rains and he has one younger brother, Tyler Rains. Taylor loves to voice his opinion and ask questions during classes. He is known among his classmates as the one who "always has something to say." His best friends, Angel Neese and Harley Lambert, agree. They also agree that Taylor is a computer whiz. Taylor is always doing things on the computer, be it art projects, website designing, or code writing, this is a hobby in which Taylor can be considered an expert. Although Taylor knows that he likes anything to do with computers, he cannot decide on his favorite song or band, claiming there are just too many to choose from. This year Taylor took AP English which turned out to be his favorite class. "Ms. April was a good teacher." Taylor wishes that he could have taken Latin, though. He learned a lot from the classes he had, however, because his most memorable moments come from finding out about his outstanding SAT and ACT test scores. He hopes these test scores and the education and experiences he received at Cedar Key High School will propel him in his next endeavors at Santa Fe Community College. Zoe Stuber

By Jessi Robinson Upcoming 2010 CKS graduate Zoe Elise Stuber was given the opportunity to describe her senior year in one word. She immediately chose `bittersweet." In 2006, Zoe and her sister Megan, who is an eighth grader at CKS, moved to Cedar Key with their mother Luzette Kincaid. At the end of her middle school career, Zoe chose to follow a different type of credit option plan, meaning she was choosing to pile on a little heavier of a work load in order to graduate a year early. This decision led to three long, strenuous school years and summers of high school and college classes. She says, "I love contributing to this amazing school, but I can`t even imagine having to go to high school for another year." Although Zoe was first diagnosed with Senioritis "three years ago," the reality of her upcoming graduation has just recently really started to hit her. "I`ve been so busy these last few months, I joke around and say I understand why some people drop out just a few weeks before graduation; this is ridiculous!" After graduation, Zoe knows exactly how she`s going to spend the first years of life in the real world. She plans to transfer to the University of Florida for pre-med after spending her first two semesters at Santa Fe. After this is completed, she will attend medical school and specialize in trauma. If everything goes as planned, this will result in her spending 10-15 years in college. In the following years after completing college, she wants to respond to natural disasters and work with the program "Doctors Without Borders," as well as contract with the military as a civilian employee to work in the war zones. When all of her schooling is done, she looks the most forward to having children of her own. In the midst of leaving her own childhood and teenage years, she reminisces on her hobbies and what she enjoyed most. While attending high school at Cedar Key, one of Zoe`s proudest moments was to make it to the regional track meet in discus, although Cross Country with Coach Brad Penney has always been her favorite sport. She also says music has been a big part of her life- she plays the piano and clarinet, and greatly enjoys listening to all kinds of music, "especially music from the forties era." Now with 22 days until graduation, Zoe wants to leave the school with this thought, "I am so glad to have spent my high school in this wonderful community of Cedar Key. I had always grown up in small towns, but Cedar Key really redefined the definition of small. The four years I have spent in Cedar Key have truly changed my life for the better and I thank all of my teachers and mentors and coaches throughout the years. I`m excited and glad to move into literally bigger and better things in college." Come watch Zoe and the rest of her class, Cedar Key`s Senior Class of 2010, graduate on Saturday, June 5th at 10 am in the school`s gym. Caleb Whitman

By Claire Brown Caleb Robert George Whitman, a.k.a. Calebo, is the son of Cedar Key High School science teacher, Richard Whitman, and former CKHS math teacher, Charmaine Whitman. He is the middle child, with an older brother, Jason, and a younger brother, Joey. Julio Martinez and CKS Junior, Harley Lambert, are Caleb`s closest friends. When asked who his favorite teacher was Caleb was unable to pick just one, saying "all of the teachers are my favorite." Caleb`s favorite class is Brad Penney`s history class. Caleb wishes that CKHS had a fencing class; he`d be the first to sign up for it! After graduation Caleb plans on attending college and getting his degree in Library Sciences. Caleb has already earned all of the credits he needs to graduate and therefore hasn`t had to attend school since December. In the meantime he`s been taking college classes at Santa Fe College. Caleb`s favorite movies are "V for Vendetta," "Dances with Wolves," and "Postman." As for music, he likes listening to Queen and his all-time favorite song is Bohemian Rhapsody. In his spare time Caleb likes reading and hanging out with his friends. Caleb participated in Senior Beta and Student Government throughout his high school career. In his lifetime, Caleb wants to visit Japan because he is fascinated with their culture and Ireland because he`s Irish. When asked what he is most obsessive compulsive about Caleb says "people touching my stuff without my permission, food organization, and food preparation." Everyone has a different opinion about living in a town as small as Cedar Key; Caleb says the advantage of it, is knowing everyone, however the long drives from his home in Old Town are a disadvantage. Caleb says all of his moments at CKS have been memorable and he wants to leave behind good memories when he graduates. Caleb`s words of wisdom for everyone are "The world ends with you; the only boundaries set, are your own." He would also like to say "CKS is an amazing school and has amazing people." |
