Dear friend and member of our music community, folksinger Bob Hamlet passed away October 19, 2016, at his home in Crystal Beach, Maryland.  Elaine Hamlet, his dear wife and close companion for 54 years, cared for him while he suffered from heart failure.

Bob was a singer and guitar player in the folk and bluegrass communities, including Philadelphia, Penn State, and later Chestertown, Maryland, and he and Elaine have been great friends of the Grillbillies at the Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival.  He was known for his rousing renditions of “Sinner Man,” “The Water Is Wide,” and “My Bucket’s Got a Hole in It.”

After graduating from Penn State, Bob spent his entire career as a beloved kindergarten teacher in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  He would say that he “would sing songs for the kids all day!”  It was a job he loved.

During his long and active retirement, he and Elaine travelled, lived in Cedar Key, Florida, for winters, performed music, read, gardened, and did all the things he loved, always, always, singing a song with a guitar in his hands.   We love you, Bob, and will miss you forever.

Elaine will plan a memorial celebration of his life when warm weather returns in the spring.
Elaine’s address is 37 Florida Avenue, Earlville, Maryland 21919.
