NEW CKPOTTERY 2019
CK CITY DECALCEDAR KEY CITY COMMISSION
RESETS ITSELF
2024 January 16

The Cedar Key City Commission met Tuesday evening, January 16, 2024, at 5 pm at the new City Hall, now located in the renovated City Community Center at 609 Sixth Street. In attendance were current Vice-Mayor Nancy Sera and Commissioners Sue Colson and Jim Wortham. The remaining two open seats were vacated by former Mayor Heath Davis and former Commissioner Susan Rosenthal in December 2023. This meeting was attended by some forty audience members.

The first order of business was the “Discussion and Possible Action Regarding Mayor Vacancy,” noted the agenda. Vice-Mayor Sera welcomed all and transferred the matter at hand to Attorney Norm Fugate. Fugate overviewed the city charter requirements, including the requirement that the city must, statutorily, have a mayor.

After some minutes of discussion, the three commissioners, Sera, Colson, and Wortham, elected Sue Colson as Mayor and Nancy Sera remained as Vice-Mayor. The three agreed to work together in strong pursuit of accomplishing the myriad weighty concerns on the commission’s agenda: the many resiliency work efforts currently underway, movement of the wastewater plant off the island, establishment of the water and wastewater pipeline, completion of plans to secure Dock Street’s understructure, and much, much more.

To the delight of the audience and thanks to Emergency Operations Manager / Fire Chief Robert Robinson’s design and oversight, the microphones placed immediately in front of each commissioner and Attorney Fugate worked well, amplifying the voices into the long seating area.

Further detail of the meeting will be published soon in the Cedar Key News.
