NEW CKPOTTERY 2019

CONSTRUCTION of
NEW CKW&SD WELL UNDERWAY
02 July 2015

Well 5xe

The Cedar Key Water and Sewer District has for many years relied on two wells to provide drinking water to District customers. These wells, Well 3 and Well 4, are located on State Road 24 about 3 miles outside of Cedar Key and have provided good service to the District over the years.

Now, however, these wells will not be able to provide the water pressure needed for the new water treatment plant that is being designed and planned for construction beginning in late 2016. A higher water pressure will be needed for the pressurized filtration systems planned for the new treatment plant. Thus, the plans call for a new Well 5 to be constructed, with existing Well 4 to be refurbished to provide the needed pressure. The older and shallower Well 3 will be retired.

During the 2014 session of the Legislature, the District received a $400,000 appropriation to help with the construction of the new water plant. The District, with approval from the State, decided to use the appropriation to move ahead with the construction of Well 5 which had a cost estimate matching the appropriation. It will be good for the District to have this new well in place and providing water while the planning and construction of the new plant is underway.

A Requests for Bids on the project was issued by the District in March of this year, and the low bidder was Worth Construction out of Live Oak, which submitted a bid below the budgeted amount for construction. Site work has commenced by Worth, with the actual well drilling scheduled to begin during the week of July 6. The new well should come on line early in October.
