Thursday evening, the Cedar Key Lady Sharks tipped off against Bronson High School in a four team elimination match officially beginning high school basketball season. This year shark players welcomed their new varsity head coach David Tomlin assisted by his wife Carrie.
The Lady Sharks fought vigorously to control the ball. However, they were unable to out score the Bronson Lady Eagles. Coach Tomlin stated "'he was pleased with his teams' efforts considering they've had very little practice due to players' involvement in other school functions."
In the first quarter Cedar Key was outscored by six points and by half time, the score was Cedar Key 9, Bronson 26. In the beginning of the third quarter the Lady Sharks closed the gap doubling their half time score and holding at Sharks 19, Bronson 38. Pumping in eight additional points by the end of the fourth and final quarter the Sharks ended their first elimination match with Bronson.The final score: Cedar Key 27, Bronson 52. Friday night the Sharks returned to Bronson for a match up with Newberry who were defeated in their first elimination match against Williston. At the end of the first quarter, the Sharks failed to score a bucket and Newberry was ahead 12-0. The Sharks pumped in 8 points to Newberry's 24 points. The third quarter left the Lady Sharks at a twenty-five point deficit with Newberry holding at 39-14. In the fourth and final quarter the Sharks fought hard to close the gap. Even though Newberry rallied with a twenty-five point spread and win (48-24), the Lady Sharks played tough and fast.
Tuesday, November 12th at 5:30 P.M. the Sharks face off in the Indians against in Chiefland. Please join and support your hometown team. Go, Sharks!!
