The Cedar Key Fire Barn was the site where free swine flu (H1N1 virus) shots were available free on December 14 from 4 PM until 7 PM. More than forty people came forward. The Levy County Health Department supplied the vaccine for the shots which were administered by a team headed by Elizabeth Powers, R.N. Gerald Salamon of Cedar Key went under the needle with barely a whimper.

Ms Powers said that there is a particular need for young people to be vaccinated for swine flu because they are less likely to have acquired immunity than older people. The Health Department team will return to the Fire Barn on January 4 from 4 PM to 7 PM to provide free vaccinations. Furthermore, free shots are available at the Health Department office in Bronson from 8 AM until 5PM on a walk-in basis. Appointments for shots at other times can be made by calling 352-486-5300. |
