NEW LADDER TRUCK IS FUNDED
2023 June 26
It is always exciting to share good news,
especially when it is great news!
especially when it is great news!
The Cedar Key Fire and Rescue Service is proud to announce that, under the leadership of Chief Robert Robinson and the support of the remainder of the Florida Department of State government, Florida’s budget for fiscal year 2023-24 includes a 1.2 million dollar appropriation for a new ladder truck to serve and protect the citizens and visitors of Cedar Key.
This is critically important to all citizens and homeowners of Cedar Key. The Insurance Standards Organization rates cities on a number of criteria, one of which is the ability for the Fire and Rescue Services to protect the persons and property of those living in the city. These ratings are used by insurance companies to set homeowners insurance rates. A city such as Cedar Key requires a ladder truck no older than 25 years. Our current truck is 30 years old. Without a newer truck, we likely would face an increase in insurance rates.
These vehicles are custom built to the exact specifications to fit the needs of each community. A second meeting with the company building the truck is scheduled. When everything is in line, construction will be ordered. We can expect delivery of the truck approximately 18 months from scheduling.
The Cedar Key Fire and Rescue members each hold the opportunity to serve our community as an honor. The support of community members, as well as local and state government, is beyond value to protect our community and ensure the safety of those on the front lines.
